Doug attended Penn State University, 1964-1967, and Eastman School of Music, 1968. He also attended clinics taught by Bassist Dave Holland. He toured with the Penn State Improvisatory Ensemble, the Jazz Spokesman, Morris Rolland Band and the Tuesday Jazztet and The Dixieland All-Stars.

He has made a full-time living as a musician since 1968, playing concerts, jazz festivals, night clubs, resort, public schools and Universities.

Doug has performed on a number of jazz albums, CDs, videos, T.V. and radio specials. His main field of interest is in totally improvised solo and group interactive music.

He has performed with Al Cohn, George Young, Bob Dorough, Kim Parker, Bob Degen, Larry Gelb, Cab Calloway, Vic Juris, Joe Morello, Marko Marcinko, Hal Linden and Bobby Rydell. Collaborations with performance artist John Bromberg, since 1990. Has worked with Peter Shumann of “Bread and Puppet Theatre, ” Vermont.

He is a member of the Pocono Bass Quartet, International Society of Bassists, Audio Engineering Society, Acoustical

 

 

Society of America, Northeast PA Arts in Education Advisory Panel and Scranton Area Foundation PPA Advisory Board.

Doug currently serves as Vice President of Local 120 American Federation of Musicians, Scranton, PA, leads the Dixieland All-Stars Band, conducts the House Orchestra at Skytop Lodge in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains and heads the Lexington Entertainment Agency.

Doug has served as Entertainment Coordinator for the City of Scranton and produced the weeklong Scranton Summer Music Festival and Sunday Concert Series at Nay Aug Park from 1990 to 2002. Currently produces the Sunday Concert series at Nay Aug Park and Concerts on the Square, Scranton, PA. Through Pennsylvania’s Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit #19 Living Arts Program, he conduts educational assemblies with the Dixieland All-Stars and Bob Dorough, of School House Rock fame, for classes at all levels.

In addition, Doug has served on the Executive Committee, First Night® Scranton, PA since 1999, Co-chairman of the entire event in 2005. He has also been a Roster Artist with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts since 1996, conducting residencies in schools, colleges and communities, participated in the Teacher/Art Save Program for underprivileged children in 2001 and 2002, Guest presenter, Keystone College, LaPlume, PA, “Introduction to the Arts” class, 2004 to present.

Doug has served on grant selection panel for Scranton Area Foundation/PA Council on the Arts Partners in the Arts, Allentown Art Museum and State PCA Panel, Harrisburg, PA.

He was awarded Artist of the Year in NEPA by PCA Arts in Education Program in 2002. Served on adjudication panels for a number of high school jazz band festivals. Performed at Pennsylvania Governor’s Mansion for 2008 Statewide Poetry Out Loud competition in Harrisburg.
